The style and watches of The Gentlemen season 2

When The Gentlemen return, most things remain the same – Fair Isle knits, corduroy, light blue shirts, and some of the most sought-after models in the watch world.

The style and watches of The Gentlemen season 2

It starts with a shirt.

Light blue, of course.

On top of it, a colorful Fair Isle vest, a tweedblazer with wide lapels, and perhaps a pair of corduroy or houndstooth trousers. On the wrist, a vintage Rolex Daytona.

And on the table?

A glass of whiskey.

Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone) med det karaktäristiska whiskyglaset och en cigarr.

It may sound like an exaggerated caricature of the British gentleman. Which it is. But that’s precisely why the style in the new season of The Gentlemen works so well. Guy Ritchie's world has always been a bit too slick, a bit too violent, and a bit too well-dressed to be entirely real.

In the second season, everything gets cranked up another notch. The British countryside remains, but the business moves on to Italy, bringing with it new environments, new money, and new ways to show who’s in charge.

The clothes and watches travel to Italy.

British Style – Turned Up a Notch

The materials and patterns are what make the collection instantly recognizable. Tweed, herringbone, corduroy, and houndstooth blend with vibrant knits, crocheted ties, and chunky blazers with wide lapels. Fair Isle-patterned vests appear over light blue shirts, while knitted polos serve as a more relaxed alternative to the traditional shirt.

This is classic British country style, but without that cautious quiet luxury vibe. Here, colors take center stage. The silhouettes are generous. Patterns are prominent. And there’s always an additional detail that some might consider a bit too much. Perhaps that's the best description of the series: old money with questionable taste.

Fair Isle and the Light Blue Shirt

Fair Isle knitting has a long history in British and Scottish clothing tradition and is perhaps the garment that most clearly captures the series' blend of countryside and upper class. In The Gentlemen, it almost becomes a uniform.

The vibrant patterns break against tweed and herringbone, while the light blue shirt reappears as a calm base beneath everything else.

It's a small detail, but it says a lot about how the wardrobe is constructed. Nothing needs to be particularly complicated. A good shirt, a chunky blazer, and a vest can do most of the work. Then you can add a knitted tie and a watch for, well, why not.

Eddie Horniman (Theo James) and his companion Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), both in classic Fair Isle.

The watches of the new season? Yes, sporty, classic, and very on point

The clothing builds the series' British world, while the watches are perhaps its most subtle status symbols. One of the clearest is a Rolex Daytona 16520, the so-called Zenith Daytona. This reference was introduced in 1988 and became the first automatic Daytona, equipped with a heavily modified Zenith El Primero-based movement.

The white dial with black subdials is also the most classic combination from the model. It’s a perfect Gentlemen’s watch. For someone who doesn’t care about watches, it’s just an old Rolex. For those in the know, it’s a Zenith Daytona. And perhaps that’s where the series' aesthetics hit the mark. The most expensive details don’t have to be the most obvious.

Eddie ready to choose today’s watch – a Rolex Daytona 16520.

Sedan kommer den riktiga showstoppern

An Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch in Omega's own “Moonshine Gold,” with a green dial and matching gold bracelet. It’s still a Speedmaster.

But now it's in gold. It’s hard to imagine a better watch for the world the characters inhabit. It’s based on one of the most classic models in watchmaking, but it doesn’t really make any great effort to be discreet.

And perhaps that’s a pretty good reflection of Eddie Horniman in season two. In the first season, he was more or less thrown into this world. Now it looks like he’s starting to feel at home in it.

Knitted polo, gold Omega on the wrist. Thank you very much.

Reverso – the gentleman's other side

A different model that comes to mind is a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. Here we leave racing and sports behind and delve straight into the more sophisticated part of the gentleman's wardrobe. The rectangular case and Art Deco design make the Reverso one of the most distinctive dress watches on the market. Additionally, the model has a perfect backstory for a series like this: it was created in 1931 for British officers in India who needed to protect their watches while playing polo.

The case could simply be flipped over to protect the glass. The Reverso is in many ways the opposite of the Daytona. More dressed up, more discreet, and significantly less interested in showing off what it can do. But both fit into the same world.

Cico Maldini (Michele Morrone), relaxed with a cigarette in hand.

And there’s more on the wrist

These watch models are just the beginning.

In the material released for the season, we also see a Panerai Radiomir, although the exact reference is hard to determine. Additionally, a couple of Rolex in solid gold can be glimpsed, as well as what appears to be an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, possibly with a perpetual calendar?

Eddie in a substantial herringbone-patterned blazer with wide lapels, paired with what appears to be an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar on his wrist.

But just like with the clothing, it's not just the price that's interesting. It's the combination. An old Zenith Daytona paired with tweed and Fair Isle feels completely natural. And a gold Speedmaster with a green dial alongside a knitted polo? Well, that's a combination you certainly wouldn't say no to.

It's all about the details

Perhaps that’s what makes The Gentlemen so enjoyable to watch even when no one is shooting at anyone. The clothes, the watches, and the cars tell the same story. It’s a world built on tradition, money, and status, but where everything has received a hefty dose of “Guy Ritchie.”

And as The Gentlemen now moves from the English countryside to Italy, the wardrobe and watches may become even more important. For no matter where the story leads, one thing seems constant: You can change countries. But a gentleman does not change his style.

I wanted to buy a steamer from the company Steamery for travel in Europe, but the models available in the US won't work in the EU, not even with an adapter. So I had to figure out a way to get the EU compatible sent to me in the United States before my trip. I used an AI app called Claude, which helped me identify care of Carl as a potential source, and my delivery came within a matter of days. I am very pleased with my shopping experience.

Got a size 39 Contemporary fit as I’m somewhere between slim fit and contemporary. It’s quite roomy though, so I got it tailored a bit (also the sleeves). But I love the material!
