Three jackets we're returning to this autumn

Autumn brings its recurring rituals. The first chilly mornings, knitwear pulled out after a summer of hibernation, slow-cooked meals on the stove, the debut of the leaf blower for homeowners, and the first walk home in the dark for city dwellers. A familiar shift also occurs in the wardrobe, as outerwear reclaim their rightful place in our outfits. Here, we have selected three autumn jackets that we happily return to year after year.

Waxed jacket – A British classic

From the British countryside to today's everyday wardrobe, the waxed jacket has made a long journey without really changing much at all. This is also part of its strength. It pairs just as well with a leaf blower as it does on the way home from work in the city. The robust construction and waxed fabric make it particularly suited for the shifting weather of autumn.

Here, we style it with a knitted sweater and blue jeans. A pair of loafers adds a more dressed-up element and creates a nice contrast to the jacket's rustic origins.

Navy blue peacoat – with roots at sea

The double-breasted peacoat has transitioned from a functional outerwear piece to an essential classic in the autumn wardrobe. Its shorter silhouette and pronounced lapels provide a more tailored expression than many other casual jackets, while the dark blue wool makes it easy to combine.

Here, we wear it over a denim shirt paired with dark wide trousers and a sturdy pair of Chelsea boots. A colored scarf adds an extra layer and breaks up the dark color palette.

Single-breasted wool coat – a timeless companion

The long wool coat truly comes into its own when the temperature drops and layering becomes part of the outfit once again. The clean silhouette and hidden fastening provide ample space to build multiple layers underneath without the overall feel becoming heavy.

Here, we let a t-shirt, shirt, and knitted polo form earthy layers beneath the coat, paired with straight jeans and derbies. Different collars, materials, and lengths peek through, creating a more refined expression while the coat ties the whole look together.
