Castañer

The casual espadrille has been produced by the Castañer family for generations. The first to take on this profession was Rafael Castañer, born in the 1770s. His legacy has been continued by many generations, and in 1927, Luis Castañer and cousin Tomàs Serra formally established the Castañer brand.

In the 1960s and 70s, a new generation took the reins at Castañer and decided to add a dash of colour to company’s relatively humble product. The formerly basic, everyday espadrille suddenly found itself becoming fashionable and, soon thereafter, Castañer espadrilles could be spotted in the displays of many well-established fashion houses.
