Panerai is one of the most talked-about names uin the watch industry, known for its robust, maritime watches that combine Italian design with Swiss watchmaking. Founded in Florence in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai, the brand started as a small shop and soon became a valued tool for the Italian navy.
The History Behind Panerai
Panerai gained recognition in the 1930s when they supplied watches to Italian commando soldiers. The iconic Radiomir model, named after the radium-based luminous material that made the dial visible in darkness, was developed during this period. It was later followed by the Luminor, which used a safer tritium-based luminous material and introduced the characteristic crown-protecting bridge.
