When Porsche launched the 964 series in the late 1980s, it showed that the future could be shaped without denying the past. The 911 Carrera 4 was the first in the family to feature four-wheel drive, quickly becoming a favourite among drivers who wanted to enjoy their sports car all year round.
The example from Johns Garage is something truly special: a 1992 911 Carrera 4, whose nickname "Redrum" is as much a visual signature as a reflection of the car’s dual nature – raw and refined in equal measure. This is a restomod in the truest, most ambitious sense of the word: restored, enhanced, and reimagined, without losing what makes an air-cooled 911 unique.
A New Generation – Then and Now
The 964 generation was a subtle revolution. Beneath the surface, much had changed: electrically adjustable seats, improved climate control, ABS brakes, and power steering – all while leaving the fundamental recipe untouched. The flat-six engine remained air-cooled, the body timeless, and the experience behind the wheel unmistakably Porsche.
The Carrera 4 marked a new chapter with its innovative four-wheel drive system, which enhanced grip in all conditions without compromising the driving experience. It is against this backdrop that "Redrum" has been built – and refined.

Redrum – A Craft Reimagined
This particular example is the result of a passionate collaboration with Polish Porsche specialist CarBone, renowned for their meticulous restorations and components steeped in the brand’s heritage. More than 30 people spent a year and a half breathing new life into the car – piece by piece, with care in every detail.
The exterior is finished in olive green metallic, with contrasting copper-coloured wheels and a black RS rear bumper. The front features air intakes for brake cooling and modern Bi-LED lights, while the door mirrors are from the 964 Cup. The side windows showcase the classic "louvred" design from the 911 R.
The interior follows the same philosophy: classic form meets modern detailing. Seats and panels are upholstered in Cocoa Brown leather with green textile stitching – a palette that harmonises with the bodywork. The seats are Cobra Nogaro with integrated heating. The steering wheel is a Momo Mod 07, and the gear lever draws inspiration from the wooden detailing of the 917. The dashboard has been backdated and fitted with custom Redrum graphics.
The sound system is discreet yet updated – a Blaupunkt SQR46 with Bluetooth, high-end speakers, subwoofer, and wireless charging provides contemporary comfort without detracting from the car’s aesthetic.

Engineering, Powertrain & Specifications
Under the skin is a newly rebuilt air-cooled flat-six producing 250 bhp, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive – a rare and practical combination. The chassis has been upgraded with HR coilovers, Powerflex bushes, and a lightweight RS flywheel, resulting in direct road feedback without sacrificing everyday usability.
Additionally, the car features stone chip protection on exposed surfaces – nothing in the build is meant to stay static.

Specifications:
- Model year: 1992
- Power: 250 bhp
- Transmission: 5-speed manual
- Drivetrain: Four-wheel drive
- Mileage since rebuild: 2,200 km
- Fuel: Petrol
Our Summary
"Redrum" is a textbook example of how a restomod should be done. It clearly respects the original, yet isn't afraid to take bold steps where it counts. The colour choices, components, and engineering have been selected with care rather than showmanship. The result is a 911 that feels more self-assured than nostalgic.
This is no garage queen. It’s a car that both wants – and deserves – to be driven.
For the collector seeking something personal, practical, and built with genuine passion rather than novelty value, this represents a rare opportunity. A second life awaits – on the road.
