Five Ways to Combine Trousers and Shoes

Style is all about combination and striking the right balance between the different items in your wardrobe. This can be anything from matching the colour of your tie with your shirt, the texture of your jumper and blazer to, as we discuss in this article, pairing the right shoes with the right trousers.
High Shoes with Tapered Trousers

Our first look combines a high Chelsea boot with a pair of slim jeans. Here, the sides of the boot merge seamlessly with the bottom leg of the jeans, creating an elegant and unbroken line.
Straight-Legged Trousers with Compact Sneakers

Rather than an unbroken line from shoe to trouser, this outfit offers a visual jump between them. Combining low sneakers with somewhat shorter suit trousers creates a small gap at the calf. To avoid your feet looking slightly unwieldy, this combination works best with more compact and minimalist models of sneaker or loafer.
Wide Trousers with Larger Sneakers

To complement larger sneaker models, we instead chose a trouser with a somewhat wider leg. Rather than looking cumbersome, your shoes will now fill the extra space provided by the wider trouser leg. It is, however, particularly important to find the right trouser length to avoid the fabric amassing on top of your shoes.
Black Shoes with Dark Trousers

Leaving questions of size and fit to one side for a moment, we can instead look into combining different colours. The most classic combination is, of course, black leather shoes paired with dark, in this case dark grey, trousers. With leather shoes, it is also important to make sure the colour matches any other leather accessories, such as belts.
The Military Look

Our final combination focuses on combining shoes and trousers in the same style. Here, we have chosen shoes and trousers of military origin, providing a common thread uniting the individual parts of the outfit.
