BEAMS F by Shuhei Nishiguchi
As Care of Carl introduces the highly coveted Japanese premium line BEAMS F to our range, we’ve had the pleasure to talk to the creative mind behind it, Mr. Shuhei Nishiguchi.

A worn saying states that fashion fades, and style is forever. This however, applies very accurately to the work of Shuhei Nishiguchi, forming the BEAMS F collection of FW22. It also shows the beauty when some trends over time become parts of eternal style. The monochrome creations of BEAMS F will add equal amounts of eighties melodramatic post-punk attitude, as they bear the cuts and makes that are the hallmarks of timeless style. We had the pleasure to let Mr. Nishiguchi himself reflect our thoughts in his own words.

Dear Mr. Nishiguchi, first of all, we are excited to have the opportunity to add Beams F to our range. My first impression is a fusion of rock’n roll and classic tailoring in full harmony. A monochrome colour palette where beautiful blazers and tailored trousers meets leather jackets and narrow black ties like seen on creatives, artists and rockstars with a high level of style throughout history.
Given this impression of the collection and Beams F: Can you give us some of your main influences for the aesthetics of the garments and combinations?
- I am inspired by traditional American, British, French and Italian culture. I value the contemporary atmosphere created by the crossover of each culture and sense of time. For the 22AW collection, we have used only monochrome to express our worldview while paying homage to the creators, artists, and musicians of the early 80's.
How would you describe your own and Beams’ image of the people who wear Beams F? Who are they?
- F in BEAMS F means FUTURE. As the name suggests, classic styles are changing (evolving) little by little day by day. BEAMS F proposes classic styles that evolve day by day too. Our customers are sophisticated, well-educated adults. They prefer to wear sophisticated clothes that subtly enhance themselves rather than just show off their clothes.

How would you advice the wearers of Beams F to merge these clothes their own wardrobes, making it a part of their own personal style?
- Just by adding one item, it looks a little fresher. We try to provide such products. We want our customers to dress with their own sense of style, not being overly bound by old rules and theories.
How would you say Beams F contributes to a sustainable wardrobe with longevity?
- The minimum necessary. It goes without saying that it is not overproduced. It means that the materials are good, the sewing is good, and the product is completed on top of high-quality Japanese manufacturing. We create modern yet universal clothing that will not get boring over the years and will remain semi-permanently in the customer's wardrobe. We believe that creating clothes that are minimally necessary and never get tired of being thrown away is the sustainable thing we can do.

As F stands for future, it also goes hand in hand with Care of Carl’s ambition to represent the classics of tomorrow. What are your thoughts when creating Beams F garments, so they represent the cutting-edge style of the future, and still have the style-quality of a long term-classic?
- The classic styles of Europe and the United States that I had seen on my overseas business trips before the Pandemic showed little or no evolution, and I felt that fewer and fewer people were gradually wearing them. However, there is no doubt that the origins of the classic style are in England, the U.S., France, and later Italy. BEAMS F delves deeper into the appeal of the classic styles of Europe and America, and by fusing these classic styles while respecting and cherishing the archives, we have created a modern classic style that is unique to BEAMS F. We are conscious of creating products that are somehow nostalgic and yet somehow new.
Care of Carl looks forward to incorporate these garments in our upcoming combinations this fall. And for all you readers, we strongly advise you to have a look at the garments and let us know your own thoughts and feelings about them.
