We are taking a look back in time and gathering inspiration from the icons of the past. This time with focus on a travelling Robert Redford.

A 60-year award-winning career as an actor, Oscar award winning director and a celebrated environmentalist, not many actors can compare themselves to the seasoned: Robert Redford. Unlike the many other bygone Hollywood icons of the time, Redford’s style is difficult to put one’s finger on. He has both represented the masculine and rebellious world wearing a leather jacket, jeans and boots. He has even gone the opposite way and upheld the three piece suit on a level that the majority of us could only dream of. We have therefore chosen to place Redford somewhere between the rebel and the dandy. This American style, which combines the preppy influences from the East Coast with the nonchalant attitude from the West Coast, whilst including the denim jacket and cowboy hat from Wyoming’s great plains.

We believe that this style is represented best in films such as “All the President’s Men” and “Three Days of the Condor”, but we can even see clear examples of the style in Redford’s private life. A prime example is the photo above, where a dishevelled Redford has just landed at Heathrow Airport dressed in exactly the type of clothes we are talking about. The patterned tweed blazer, white socks and tassel loafers represent the preppy influences. The nonchalant aspect is represented through the casually worn scarf, Redford continues this theme with a pair of stone washed jeans inspired from the West. An outfit that does not let on that the picture was taken in the early 1990s, but instead conveys just how effective a great fit and colour choice is when one strives to achieve a timeless look. Collectively, this outfit is perfect for those who find themselves on their travels and a typical example of what Redford stylistically represents.
