About Oyster Perpetual
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual was born in 1926, as the world's first completely waterproof watch, closed like an oyster with the ability to keep water out of the case. It was not really until 1931 that the model became the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, when Rolex patented an automatic movement, ground breaking at the time, which allowed the watch to run "forever" with continuous use. The model is the basis for both the Rolex Explorer and the Datejust.
