About GMT-Master
The Rolex GMT Master is one of the most appreciated and sought-after watches in the watch world. The model was born, as in so many other contexts, out of a purely practical need, where the pilots of Pan American Airlines were constantly travelling between different time zones for short periods of time, and needed a tool to keep track of the time they came from and the time at their destination. The Rolex GMT Master also gave birth to the cyclops, the small magnifying lens above the date display.
As with all Rolex watches, patina sometimes means breath-taking values. A dial and bezel whose colour has faded does not mean that the watch is worn, but that it has a history and soul. The Rolex GMT Master is mostly steel and usually comes on an Oyster or Jubilee link, and usually with a black dial. A half red half-blue ring is known as a "Pepsi" and is highly sought after. What about the pilots of Pan Am? They most likely often wore the black plate and ring version, with the watch and link made of solid red gold.
