In collaboration with Johns Garage, Care of Carl has curated a carefully selected range of sports and enthusiast cars. The idea behind the collaboration is to highlight vehicles that combine classic design with enduring quality – cars with a story, character, and a unique charm of their own.
In the 1970s, Porsche planned to discontinue the 911 series. Instead, they built the SC – a reliable, powerful, and almost over-engineered sports car. Today, more than 40 years later, this Swedish-sold example is still on the road.
SC stands for “Super Carrera” and was launched in 1978 as a replacement for both the 911 and the Carrera 3.0. It was a model meant to save the 911 series from being discontinued – and it succeeded. With improved reliability, a broader torque curve, and smoother drivability, the SC quickly became a favourite both on the road and on the track.
Johns Garage’s current example, a 1981 Porsche 911 SC, is a car that carries its history with pride. Sold new in Sweden and with only two owners since 1999 – a testament to how cherished and well-maintained the car has been over the years.
Zinn Metallic – A Shade with Attitude
Saying that the colour makes the car is no exaggeration in this case. Zinn Metallic, a warm and subtle shade of silver, suits the iconic lines of the 911 perfectly. It gives the car a discreet yet confident presence – a kind of understated elegance that works just as well outside a café as in the rearview mirror on the Autobahn.
The car sits on classic 16-inch Fuchs wheels with polished rims, further enhancing its character. The Carrera-style rear wing and subtle front spoilers add both visual weight and improved aerodynamics, without being aggressive.

Interior in Contrast
Open the door and you are greeted by a dark blue leather interior – an unusual and elegant contrast to the silver exterior. The colour choice breathes the 1980s yet feels timeless, giving the cabin a calm that suits both long journeys and winding backroads.
The interior is also functionally equipped with electric windows, a power sunroof, and a rear window wiper – luxurious at the time, charming and useful today. Everything in the car is in excellent condition, both mechanically and visually.

Engine, Engineering and Driving Experience
Under the engine lid sits an air-cooled 3.0-litre flat-six, known for its distinctive rasp and impressive reliability. In SC specification, the engine delivers around 204 hp (in later model years like this one), paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and classic rear-wheel drive.
It is a combination that offers exactly the kind of driving experience enthusiasts associate with the 911: light front end, heavy rear, precise steering – and a constant stream of mechanical feedback.

Our Summary
This Porsche 911 SC may not be the most talked-about 911 in the history books. But that is exactly what makes it so appealing. It is discreet. Practical. Built during an era when Porsche prioritised mechanical quality over digital excess – and it shows.
This example is more than just a car. It is a piece of rolling history, shaped by care, a modest ownership history, and a colour combination that stands out without shouting. It is a car for those who enjoy driving, maintaining, and living with their classic – not just displaying it.
For anyone looking for an air-cooled 911 to both love and actually use, this is a rare opportunity that is hard to ignore.
